Universal Music Group to Release NFTs on LimeWire’s Algorand Marketplace
The major music label behind Taylor Swift, U2, Kendrick Lamar, and BTS will let artists drop NFTs on the new Web3 version of LimeWire.
The global deal will let artists signed to Universal Music Group and its myriad imprint labels release tokenized digital collectibles via the upcoming LimeWire marketplace. Universal’s imprints include the likes of Interscope Records, Def Jam Records, Motown Records, Geffen, Republic Records, EMI, Virgin Music, and others.
LimeWire will be relaunched as an NFT marketplace that’s initially focused on music-related assets, whether it’s actual music or things like artwork and collectibles from musicians.
Robinhood to let users hold their own crypto and NFTs as it reaches for growth beyond stock trading
Robinhood will launch a stand-alone app that lets users custody their own cryptocurrencies and NFTs, putting it squarely in competition with Coinbase.
The self-custody wallets also will accelerate the company’s international launch.
It’s the brokerage firm’s latest move into digital assets as it searches for growth beyond stock trading, with company shares down 88% from their all-time high.
Spotify previews NFT Galeries On Artist Profiles
Only a sample of Android users in the U.S. are a part of the feature test. “Spotify is running a test in which it will help a small group of artists promote their existing third-party NFT offerings via their artist profiles,” says the company as reported by TechCrunch.
NFT galleries on artist pages are a simple grid of static images. Videos, GIFs, and sounds are not featured in the Spotify app. However, direct links to each NFT’s OpenSea page are displayed in the app for users to fully explore and purchase an NFT. As part of the test, commissions or fees for purchases initiated through the in-app navigation will not be applied by Spotify.
Steve Aoki and The Wombats are among the select group of artists featured in the NFT preview. Given Aoki’s fervor for NFTs, his participation in the test is no surprise.
